With all the recent compliments I have gotten in the past few weeks, it really has given me quite a confidence boost. And while I still have quite a ways to go til I reach my maintenance goal, I decided to change things even more for the better.
I do not believe I am lactose intolerant because I have absolutely zero issues eating ice cream of any kind or flavored creams that one puts in coffee… and I absolutely dig cheese of all kinds. But milk, now that’s a different issue all together. It totally and completely upsets my stomach like someone eating hot spicy Mexican food.
It’s been about 2 months since I last had anything to do with milk — as in — me purchasing milk with my groceries for the sole purpose of using the milk in my foods, smoothies or putting it on my cereal. Someone told me that they have added water to make their smoothies and I thought that was the grossest sounding thing ever. Until I tried it.
A couple of Christmases ago, Santa brought me the Magic Bullet blender. It has been a Godsend. I love it to pieces but sometimes wish it was slightly larger — the cup part.
During the blizzard last night, or ah, the blizzard like conditions that came to Yankton… I stupidly opted to run over to WalMart — since it was a mere 2 blocks away. I picked up three varieties of frozen fruit and was on my way.
Fifteen minutes ago, I put in frozen blueberries, mango, pineapple, peaches and strawberry with 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein powder (30 grams) and water. The results? Oh-my-gawd = deliciousness. Why on earth did I NOT think of not using milk before!?!?!?! I feel almost silly for never trying just plain ol tap water with my smoothies before. But it’s a heck of a lot more healthier. So my 20 ounce home-made smoothie to beyond awesome.
I am going to add one smoothie to my diet every day … the frozen fruit at WalMart was so cheap. $2.88 for a package of the mixed mango, pineapple, peaches and strawberries. $3.88 for frozen blueberries…. I use a small amount in every smoothie and I’m going to switch from vanilla whey protein powder to unflavored protein powder. Sometimes I just do not want a vanilla taste to the stuff I blend. And thankfully WalMart does carry it. I cannot stress enough — to get in my daily protein intake. I always try to eat or drink 80 grams daily. I want to push that up to 100 grams a day.
For those of you who do not realize how important protein is for your daily intake… it actually makes you feel “full” and you don’t have that need to snack all throughout the day or night. I eat protein in the morning at work, then I eat it at lunch and then at suppertime. Even if you take something as simple as celery and peanut butter along with you at work, you are getting the protein you need just from the peanut butter. I realize it’s not as yummy as a pile of chocolate or a handful of salty chips but I’ve learned to really really love peanut butter. And my lap band prefers creamy over extra crunchy but it’s all up to you and your likes.
Day 4 of 2015 … so far, so good. Continue to make good eating choices … and that includes what you drink too.
